What did you do as part of the Esprit de Merci team?

Over the years, I've written creative and technical content for and about a wide range of companies, non-profit organizations, and products. Deliverables have included ad copy, SEO web content, technical and instructive manuals, blogs, commercial screenplays, videos, social media strategy and content, consumer-facing e-mails, and even web graphics, social media assets, and logo designs.

For EdM, I’ve used my skillset to edit and design website updates, contribute to the crafting of client tools (e.g., the Roadmaps Workbook, workshop presentations, etc.), edit videos, and create the Esprit de Merci Style Guide.

What opportunities did you see through your work at EdM?

There often seems to be a disconnect between what individual team members want to achieve and the goals of supervisors and management. In many instances, the lines of communication are dysfunctional, and team members go unheard. As a result, organizational achievements overwhelmingly only benefit those in power.

What is your top CliftonStrengths™ strength, and how do you leverage that?

Learner. I have a passion for acquiring knowledge. Working on new projects that center around topics that I’m unfamiliar with excites me. Researching and incorporating the details from my discoveries into my work is satisfying.

What other experiences and skills do you bring to your work?

In my lifetime, I’ve worked in a wide range of industries: hospitality, retail, business-to-business sales, the performing arts, and advertising. I’ve experienced all kinds of teams—some that worked well and others . . . not so much. These experiences have given me a unique perspective that most folks don’t have. And I used that perspective in my work and interactions.

To be a jack of all trades is not always a bad thing.

What and where do you most associate with your early years?

I grew up in Greenville, SC. I most associate Boy Scouts and Greenville County Youth Orchestra with my early years.

What was the first group or team you ever chose to join?

In 3rd grade, I jumped at the opportunity to learn to play the viola and join the elementary school orchestra. I was a member of various orchestras (including fours years of South Carolina All-State Orchestra) and continued playing through my sophomore year of college.

What's a hobby you enjoy today (and/or wish you had more time for)?

I'm an avid cyclist who rides socially, philanthropically, and competitively (not as much as I'd like). And honestly, I wish I had the time and patience to start playing my viola again.
