Karen Clark
Office Manager

What do you do at Esprit de Merci?

Every business needs effective internal systems for team members in order to support growth and serve clients effectively. As office manager, I am responsible for maintaining our files, managing calendars, identifying and implementing technology and tools, and coordinating our project management system. I also lead the design, development, and documentation of our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

What do you seek to support through your work at EdM?

Each organization is different, and what works for some teams is not as helpful for others. My goal is to help Kelly and her team find what works best for them when it comes to back office tasks. While we are all responsible for keeping our house in order, I am always looking for ways to improve internal efficiency, enabling more time in support of our clients and community.

What is your top CliftonStrengths™ strength, and how do you leverage that?

My top CliftonStrengths™ strength is Input. Since I love to gain knowledge, I'm constantly learning new and fascinating information. I was born curious, so I ask questions, do the research, and find solutions.

What other experiences and skills do you bring to your work with Esprit de Merci?

Straight out of college, I worked in the financial industry as an Administrative Assistant and juggled the schedules, calendars, email, and project coordination for the Vice President of my area. As an Special Educator, I not only taught curriculum for every grade level (K-5), but coordinated multiple student schedules, teacher schedules and parent meetings. Organization and communication were the key to successfully meeting everyone's needs.

What and where do you most associate with your early years?

I was a military kid, but lived most of my early years in Northern Virginia. My early years, and even beyond, were spent participating in sports or playing outside with my friends.

What was the first group or team you ever chose to join?

My older sister played softball and I loved practicing with her in our backyard, so I decided to give it a try. I loved it and played from the time I was 8 through high school.

What's a hobby you enjoy today (and/or wish you had more time for)?

I love reading and camping/hiking. I always have a running list of books I want to read, usually reading 2 or 3 at the same time. My husband and I try to get away to the mountains as often as possible to camp and hike our beautiful Virginia mountains.
